  • 5 Plus Hours of Nature, Play and Core Subjects!. Join us for all the outdoor fun of nature and farm-life, plus exploring reading time, math, science and history. We will add these important core subjects to a forest exploring, pond stomping, game playing good time, while building friendships. This year we have added Physical Education, too!These courses will be taught by skilled teachers who know how to teach to multiple levels at once. Parents are not required in class, but always welcome. k-5th grades. This year Physical Education will be included on Mondays.

Engineering

Engineering Class is a class where science concepts are learned and applied in a hands on method of learning. We enjoy topics such as what engineering is, The Process of Engineering, Simple Machines, Problem Solving, Team Work, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Friction, Mechanical and Kinetic Energy.  We will explore Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Force and Pressure, Skyscrapers, Bridges and Arches- just to mention a few! Donations of paper, boxes, tape (all kinds), rope, glue, and wire are always welcome.

Students will explore history from the indigenous peoples through the 20th century. Hand in hand with learning people or dates is hearing the stories and understanding the broader themes. This class can be paired with Middle School American Literature or taken separately.

We will read multi-cultural, age-appropriate literature written creative projects, and discussions to explore important themes of literature and of humanity. We will not utilize the five-paragraph essay in this class, but, rather, an understanding of the text, creative writing, and mechanics. This course is designed to foster an exploration of our multi-faceted culture and enjoyment of reading same. This class can be paired with MS American History or taken separately.

American Sign Language (ASL) is the 3rd most common language in the United States. This course introduces the basics of ASL. It is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of ASL. In this course, learning is visually based. ASL questions, commands, and other simple sentence structures are introduced to develop conversational skills and beyond in ASL. Students will learn basic vocabulary, grammar, history, fingerspelling, numbers, and Deaf terminology. Information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture is introduced. This course is suitable for middle-school-age students who are serious about learning a language, high school language credit, or general community learning. Practice outside of class and/or Deaf events required! THIS IS A 2 YEAR FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASS.

This class will focus on working on the math fundamentals needed to confidently move into a pre-algebra problem. Hands-on activities help to solidify concepts, making them readable and understandable to students so these principles can be applied in higher levels of math. We will also learn logical thinking using games and activities. This allows students to better problem solve and rationally think through the problems. Journalism

Step into the world of real journalism in this hands-on, project based media course designed for middle and high school students! Students will learn the foundations of journalism, interviewing, photography, editing, design, and media production while working together as a real student publication team. Throughout the year, students will help create a homeschool community newsletter and co-op yearbook, giving them practical experience writing articles, covering events, taking photos, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with peers in rotating newsroom roles such as reporter, photographer, editor, and designer. This interactive course builds communication, creativity, leadership, and real world media skills in a fun and engaging environment where student work will be shared with the homeschool community.

American History (U.S. History)

Students will explore the people, ideas, conflicts, and choices that shaped early America from pre-colonial Indigenous cultures through the Civil War. Rather than focusing on memorizing dates and names, this course approaches history as the story of real people and the impact their decisions had on the world around them. Through historical storytelling, primary sources, group activities, discussions, and creative assignments, students will examine multiple perspectives while exploring topics such as colonization, the American Revolution, the Constitution, westward expansion, slavery, and the Civil War.

Students will explore the foundations of American identity through classic literature, historical documents, speeches, and short stories connected to Early America through the Civil War era. Students will read engaging texts including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and work on strengthening reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, discussion, and writing skills.

This discussion based course is designed to support a variety of learning levels while helping students grow into stronger readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Students will practice paragraph writing, essays, analysis, and research skills in preparation for higher level high school and future college coursework.

Physical Science and Lab

This is a yearlong course that will provide an introduction to high school level Physical Science. Topics will include matter, atomic structure, chemical bonds, motion and fluid, energy, mechanical waves and sounds, and much more. Classes will be taught with students reading textbook sections and viewing video links reinforcing and adding to concepts and followed by class discussions and experiments.​Students will learn how to write complete detailed lab reports, learn to follow the scientific method, as well as correct procedures for performing an experiment safely and thoroughly. Science should be fun and amazing. This class will encourage inquisitive, out-of-the-box thinking.
